So, an interesting report from Linkedin
dropped into my inbox a few days ago – ‘Insights for the modern recruiter on what talent wants in the United Arab Emirates’.
It seems people in the UAE are constantly looking for a new job!
48% of the people they surveyed here are actively looking for work, compared to just 30% globally.
Even the people who aren’t actively looking for a new job would be interested in hearing from recruiters. “Awesome news for recruiters!” I hear you shout, BUT…
Let’s take a look at these eager job-hunters shall we. 86% of people in the UAE would be interested in hearing about job opportunities – but do you think most of them are actively looking? Spending hours per day searching the traditional job-boards to see if there is anything out there that sparks their interest? Taking the time to open the mountain of emails they receive each day promoting jobs? Of course not!!
Most job recommendations generated from traditional sites are simply based on key-word matches between your profile and what the recruiter is looking for; just because I mention in my CV that I worked in an ‘electronics store’ when I was 19 doesn't mean that at 35 I am interested in every job that has the word ‘electrical’ in it, nor would recruiters want to receive my application for an Electrical Engineer position.
I don’t know about you but these days I generally just assume that none of the positions on these emails are suitable, rather than waste time reading them only to be disappointed.
When hunting for jobs we are generally only interested in positions that we are qualified to do, that we have the correct experience for and that are going to pay us the salary we require – why would we waste our time applying for anything else?
After all, we all now know we will just end up in the Secret Folder ! And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you really should start reading our blog :-)
Till next time… #BeJobSmart
